I'm looking for a good BMX, any suggestions?

Looking for a good daily driver crusier style bike... something under $8000.. any suggestions?

  • I want to find a good reliable bike that will handle daily driving of 100mile or more. Something comfortable and easy to ride. It would be my daily driver per say. I currently ride a '80 Yamaha Maxim 650, but it just aint my style and not very comfortable if you ask me. Im 250 pounds, so I need something a little bigger as well. Im fond the HD Heritage and the Yamaha V-Star, but Im not too familiar with some of the less expensive alternitives... Just looking for suggestions Thanks

I'm not a heavy dude, but I'm tall. 36 inch inseam. I have a used '99 FXDWG that has given me no trouble at all in the last 10,000 miles. Up until recently I had an 80 mile commute back and forth to work. It cost me less than 9 grand and it handles just fine in parking lots. (My personal bike test. If I can slip the clutch, and use the rear brake a bit at low speed, to keep the puppy under control I consider the bike a keeper.) The bike is very comfortable. I probably helps that I have an aftermarket seat. I have no idea how comfy a stock Dyna seat may be. I had no trouble making my 80 mile commute on this baby. She is sweet in the turns, and goes like heck when you twist the wick. The TC-88 is a great motor. I had an old 1200 Sporty that went OK, but the 88 feels like you have the hand of God on your butt and he is pushing you! The Dyna is the next cheapest thing to the Sporty. It's the cheap "big" H-D. If you are are a heavyweight, the extra cubes are gonna help when you have to "move it or lose it". Getting a used Dyna (The FXDWG model) would be a good bet as long as you stay away from the ones that had the problems with bearing failure, and the ones that have not been converted to gear cam drive. You can get the info you need at www.AIMag.com by looking at the past info they have available on line. (Engine info, that is.) As far as comfy goes, if you have a stock saddle, you need to ditch it as soon as possible if it starts to bother you. I got a bad case of "nut & butt" on my stock Sporty seat. When I got the new "Mustang" seat, I was fine. Good luck in your search. Remember that the AMF days are long behind us. My scoot has almost 50,000 miles on it. It don't leak, it always starts, and as long as you go to an "indie" shop you don't pay as much "Harley" tax. Ride safe.

Try looking at a used late model Honda VTX 1300. I ride HD but a friend at work has a VTX and it's a pretty nice bike for a metric cruiser. His is a couple of years old with low miles and he got it for way less than $8000. His is the C(custom) model. They also have an R(retro) model.

You can buy a brand new Suzuki C50 or C50T for less than $8000. That's 50 cu in or 805cc. I ride an 05 C50T (T is the touring model). Plenty of power, shaft drive, fuel injection, comfortable ride. What more do you need?

Obviously a Heritage Classic would be the way to go but finding a late model under 8 grand is next to impossible. The new '06/'07 V Star 1300 Silverado with EFI is sweet ride for someone your size. Since the introduction of the 1300cc, prices on the V Star 1100 (Traditional Carbuerated V Twin) have dropped substantially. So if price is an issue, a used 1100 V Star could be found for a steal.

Used Yamaha Virago 750.

yes the best out there is the suzuki volusia, or now called the c50. a great bike. big size size, size of there 1500 but only $6000 to $7000 800cc. nice riding and very reliable. it currently is the best selling metric bike in its class, and i beleive in all sizes of cruisers too.

These are all good Motorcycles but the Vulcan 800 A is the best bang for your buck. Great reliable bike to ride. The 800 is good stock but for about 600 bones it turns itself in to a good looking custom. you can pick one up for around 4 to 5 grand with fewer than 8000 miles on the clock in the Midwest. The 900 isn't bad either but the styling went down hill.

Go on-line to E-Bay and you'll be amazed at how many there are to choose from!
