First "big bike" what to get?
-
i have just passed my full bike license after riding round on a 125 for just under a year and am wondering what first big bike to get. I have narrowed the selection to two completely different bikes in terms of style they are: the honda hornet 600 and the triumph daytona 600. money isn't really an issue and my insurance on either bike is pretty decent as well. i am coming up to 19 years of age and am about 5'9 i also live around some really nice A roads and would say that i am not a dangerous rider but i do like the thrill of speed- which is only used in larger amounts when i know its safe. any help will be greatly appreciated and please no joke answers.

Personally i wouldnt bother with the Truimph as they know to develop awkward engine problems. My freind had one and the alternator kept burning out, then the regulator rectifier. My other freind the engine developed a problem with the starter gear. Also the Truimph seem to like to make it awkward to work on the carbs or replace/clean the airfilter. The air filter is very awkward to get to , requiring alot of work. On most japanese bikes its a simple case of removing the seat/tank and a cover. On most Truimphs i have worked on its.. remove seat, side panels, carbs, front half of air box.... and the airboxs on the truimphs i have see are cheap nasty plastic with screws that will seize to the captive nuts so making it impossible to dismantle without damaging the air box. I would go with the Honda Hornet- which is a detuned CBR..m only thing about the Hornet is that Honda didnt invest any concideration to making the exhaust system unique and routed to conceal the huge sump of the engine. OR put a belly pan on it. My bike is a Kawasaki ZZr600- 100hp 1999 model which cost me about £1000. This bike is worth concidering as it will be cheaper than the CBR( popularity of the bike keeps the value up even on old dogs), easier to work on than the truimph and plenty quick enough. It makes a great touring bike, weekend outing bike or what ever you fancy doing with some comfort. GS500's, i have ridden a few and you may find them uncomfortable due to your hieght, unless you get one with standard street bars(not the dropped race bar version). I found that the race bar version would give me cramp and wrist problems( im 5ft7). Also if you like to go on the twisties with friends or IAM you will find that the bike will need to be worked, but will keep up with bigger bikes on bends but come to straight roads the 600cc's will leave it for dead. The GS500 will do 90mph + (depending on condition of engine and if restrictor washers are installed). You may find them not to be so comfortable on long journeys due to the riding position and the level of saddle/ride comfort. But the make good ' town hoppers'

I don't like the sportz bikes at all check out the specs on the 2 bikes and see which you are looking for in a bike. look at: seat height width weight

don't forget you are restricted to 25kw 33bhp for 2 year bear that in mind when choosing your bike as some models may be better suited than others

I'm partial to Triumphs. Nice bikes, not everyone has one.

To be honest you shouldn't go from scooter to super-sport bike. Go with a sport bike instead. Suzuki GS500F is what I'm talking. Maybe even consider a Kawasaki Ninja 500. I own a GS500F personally and it's a hell of a bike. Fun for twisties with good handling and not too much power. Go with a sport bike but not a supersport. If your leaning forward on the bike than it's a super-sport.
