How do I obtain an international motorcycle license?

How do I obtain a license to cover me for a 125CC motorcycle in the UK?

  • I want to be on the road on a 125CC bike within the next six months. Please note I'm in the UK. I just paid £50.00 for my provisional driving license and it should be arriving in the next few days in the post. The DVLA and Direct.gov websites just DON'T make anything clear at all as there is all these categories.. A1, A, C etc etc. and everything is not explained clearly. I need to know EVERY step to obtaining a license that will cover me on a 125cc bike, explained clearly.

  • Answer:

Obtain provisional Category A driving licence. Go through a C.B.T. (Compulsory Basic Training) course. You are required by law to have a C.B.T. certificate, before you can ride on the road. Buy a BS or EC approved motorcycle helmet, a decent pair of gloves and a jacket Buy a motorcycle or scooter, with an engine capacity of less than 125cc and under 14.6bhp. Fit 'L' plates front and rear. Get the bike insured. Check it has a valid tax disc and if it's over 3 years old, a current M.O.T. certificate. You are now good to go.
