What age can I get my license?

At what age can I get a motorcycle permit/license in NC?

  • I am getting my first job soon, and need a way to get myself to work and back. what age must I be to obtain a motorcycle license? I am going to be riding a Kawasaki 250 or 650. Thank you or you're time. -Jon

  • Answer:

You have to be 16, and already have a valid license (full provisional, regular, or commercial) to get a motorcycle endorsement. To get a motorcycle learner's permit, you must have a full provisional or a regular license, and be between the ages of 16 and 18. You will also have to pass a knowledge test, and then a practical test, just like when getting your regular license. Since you are under 18 you will also be required to take a motorcycle safety course offered by third parties (meaning not the DMV). There are links to two such programs in the source provided, as well as all the information you'll need to get on the road. Have fun, I wish I had a street bike to cruise around on!
