How do you adjust a clutch on a 1989 honda Goldwing 1500?

How to adjust Honda XR100R clutch And carb? (PLEASE READ.)?

  • I just got the bike back from the shop after a top end rebuild. They forgot 2 things: 1.) The clutch grabs. When its in first gear and the clutch is pulled it moves foward like 3/4 the speed of 1st gear without pulling the clutch. The idle also drops to a significant low if you force it to stop when the clutch is pulled. How can I tighten the clutch? 2.) The carb. They rebuilt it. It idles on full and half choke, but cuts out on no choke. Should I only have to adjust the main idle screw? Thanks for your time and answers.

  • Answer:

1st, listen to this other guy and get a manual, every bike owner needs one. To adjust the clutch, there is a finger adjuster at the lever itself, probably under a rubber boot. There is also an adjuster at the clutch cover that can be tightened up. Old bikes will have stretched cables that will need to be replaced, there's just no adjustment left. As for the carb, if they rebuilt it, and it doesn't run right, don't touch it, take it back and make them fix it. If clutch adjustments confuse you, don't even thinking about poking around in a carb.
