What to do when Painting a Motorcycle?

Need help painting motorcycle plastics?

  • I have painted many motorcycles but the paint almost always comes out dull or scratches very very easily, does anyone know what primer, base, and clear to use for motorcycle plastics. I'm going to be doing black if that helps, Im about to just paint it primer black, also how long should I let it sit and cure?

  • Answer:

Make sure before you paint that all the plastic has a 'grabbing' surface for the paint to adhere to. Best way I've found is to use Wet & Dry sanding pads from 3M. The pads come in three grits Medium, Fine and Extra Fine, get all three. Use the Medium for the big scratches than to the Fine than to the Extra. Use plenty of water to keep the sanding going smoothly without gumming up the grit. After sanding, wash, rinse well and let dry. Since I hate paint-clean-up I always use rattle-can and the best I've found is Fusion by Krylon Paints. Doesn't need a primer, dries fast and comes out real nice.
