How much is a motorbike license in the UK?

Motorbike test (UK) - License restrictions - CC as well as bhp?

  • I'm confused! What are the exact restrictions on motorcycles you're allowed to ride when passing the A1 test. i.e. The engine CC and bhp. Is it the CC that is limited as well?? I'm 22, ride 125cc regularly, passed the theory today and don't fancy shelling out a load for direct access. Just want to ride a slightly bigger bike - around 250cc or 500cc. Would I have to wait the full 2yrs to ride a bike over my 125cc without resorting to restricting the next bike I buy (which sounds complicated and probably entitles the insurance companies to bend me over and rape me senseless) Any advice much appreciated Thanks in advance, Matt

  • Answer:

Hey Matt, The link below will give you all the details you need: http://www.takeyourbiketestnow.com/ The easiest option is to take your test a.s.a.p. on your 125 and then you can ride anything up to 33bhp straight away. You won't need to retest on a bigger bike after the 2 years (@33bhp) are up. Thats the way I'm doing it as 33bhp covers quite a few interesting rides and as you've pointed out - those arsebanditbastard insurance companies should go easier on us!! LOL. Good luck - (was the theory test easy? will be booking mine soon)
