0cc , I think they are pretty dangerous. I don't like the small wheels or the fact they only do 40k's up a hill. I got my learners for a motorbike today and plan on buying a 250cc, maybe a honda bandit or rebel. I don't want a sports bike just a cruising bike for the weekends. My brother has been riding for 8 years and is telling me to get a lager scooter instead. Scooters cost just as much money as a really nice motorbike. I'm a girly girl but I love bikes... what you reckon a good learners bike is ? do you think I should stick to a 250cc scooter. (they do cost a bit)

forget the scooter...do what YOU want...if your bro love scooters let him get one...if u get one you will not b happy.....will you??? and get a 350 to 500...after 2/3 months you will want more power...250 doesnt cut it at 60 mph and up hills..... a 500 is about size and wt of 250...bigger is better up to a point.

don't listen to him. he probably just thinks something like that is to much for a girl to handle. get the bike YOU want. it'll be YOUR money. get the biggest, baddest, bike you want.

My guy has a Honda Shadow 650cc.. it is low to the ground so that even I can put my feet flat to the ground( I am 5'2").. it crusies real well and is worth the money he has like 60,000 miles on it and all he does is change the filters, oil every 20,000 miles and the tires once or twice in that time

You're much better off with a motorcycle. The Honda rebel is a good beginner's bike as it is light and not overpowered. You can always trade up if you feel the need for speed.

Ride your own ride. In my town, some girly girls ride 250cc Yamaha Virago and 250cc Kymco. The Yamaha is my daughter's first bike. 250cc cruisers are easiest to learn on.

Buy something used and inexpensive for a starter bike. Look for something old but not too old. You don't want something so old that it is a junker, but not something so new that you'll feel bad if you lay it down. Look for something in the 500 - 800 CC engine size. This will be powerful enough so you don't get bored too soon, but not so fast that you will be afraid of it. Look for a standard or cruiser bike for your first bike. They are more forgiving. Stay away from the sport bikes as they require more skill. Also used sport bikes tend to be more abused. Learn on this bike. Make your mistakes on it. Would you rather make your mistakes on an older bike or your nice shiny expensive new bike? Take a motorcycle safety course. After you have been riding a while and gain some experience, you can sell your starter bike and get the one you want. If maintained properly and not abused, you won't lose too much money on your starter bike. Put the money from the sale towards the bike you really want. By this time, you will have figured out what style bike best suits your riding style and needs. If you settle on a sport bike for your next bike, avoid the used ones. As I said before, these bikes tend to be more abused. So if considering a sport bike, consider something new. Have fun - Ride safe

You need to get what you want or you're not going to be happy. Yes motorcycles are dangerous but if you take a driver's course your chances of an accident decrease. If you go to a bike shop to buy your rod ask them if they have training classes. This will let you get used to your bike with out driving on the road. They also should offer a line of bikes with different power that you may be able to ride for this class so you can see the handling difference. If you want a bike to ride on the road the bigger and the louder the better. That will help all the other idiots on the road see and hear you. You also want to be able to get out of there way in a hurry if the need arises or be able to go as fast as speed limit permits. You may want to get a scooter if you aren't going to go the speed limits.

If I were you I'd go wih the answer from bluesguy. he has the exprience and knowledge.I've been a liscensed rider for 38 yrs. He knows what he's talking about. Be careful Good luck, and mosty, ride smart you'll have alot of fun for many years. Unless you plan to ride around a couple of city blocks only, forget the scooter, you'll hate it within 2 weeks.

My wife started with a Honda Shadow 600. It is a fairly well balanced bike with a low seat. It has a relatively low top speed too. They cruise nice at 60 or 65 mph (100 kph). Oh, and everything that the guy above me said is dead on too.
