How do you learn to ride the motorcycle?

How hard is it to learn how to ride a motorcycle?

  • 21 and interested in possibly getting a bike over car.......but I have no experiance riding one...I have a drivers licesnse and I can ride a normal bycycle but wondering how difficult it is to learn to ride or ride a motorcycle..any advice?

    It takes practice, but it's not terribly hard. The trick is not to get too stressed out while you are trying to learn. The key is learning the friction zone of the clutch, and throttle control. Once you get that down, learning is much easier. Then you need to learn to operate the bike at slow speeds. Any one can go fast in a straight line on a bike, the real skill is handling it at slow speeds when the bike is more unstable. You can learn all of that in a safety class. I suggest you take the MSF safety course or get a private tutor. These lessons will teach you the proper way of operating your bike and how to recognize and avoid hazards and rider errors. I went to Harley Davidson and took the Rider's Edge course. My dealership allowed students to return to re-take the class if you don't do well the first time without cost.

It's not really hard. You can easily find out for yourself how hard it is by signing up for an MSF class. They provide the motorcycles for the class. http://www.msf-usa.org Good luck.

its not really that hard but before you go and buy one might want to find someone willing to teach you some before hand or take some classes but heres a few links to read about it it took me like five minute to drive one but maybe a good year to ride it right and thats been 40 yrs ago you can find alot by typing in the search box like i did how to ride a motorcycle and there is plenty but heres what i got and if you type that in at youtube might even get a video

not hard at all. i learned on a honda 360. got good enough and went up to a KZ 400. then up to a KZ 1000.( both kawasaki) yamaha came out with a VIRAGO 750 . looked and sounded like a harley, pipes, body,handle bars. (ram horn type) now...well now i have a harley-davidson softtail. custom. "ram horn "handle bars of course. don't like the ape hanger style some guys have. nor do i like the drag bar type either. each to his own though. candy apple red, king and queen seat. customised exhaust pipes. sorry i don't have a pic. to show you. but...to answer the question...start out small, get used to one, then get your baby. warning.....people do not see you like they see a car. you have to be fully aware of the other guy. trust me on that one. i'm very lucky to be answering this. be very observant. do not try to 2nd guess anyone. it's your life on 2 wheels. learn it...enjoy it.

im 20 and want to get a bike. i have a cousin that's going to show me plus im going to take the msf course. from what ive seen it looks easy, my cousin did fell a couple time but it was because he was driving like a idiot just drive carefull and you will be ok.

take the msf course and you'll be straight. worst case scenario - find an empty parking lot and practice for a few weeks. you'll need the experience...

For the US - MSF course For the UK -- CBT course, followed by any one of the approved training courses, then take the test and then an advanced course. Riding the machine takes some learning and practice, surviving on the road takes proper instruction, learning, skill, concentration and courage.
