What is a deterministic push down automaton?

What is the lenght of exhaust push rod, back cylinder, on 96 Harley Softtail?

• Original solid lifter and push rods were replaced on this bike. The current adjustable push rods jam nut came loose and rod is way out of adjustment. I can manually turn engine over so the hydraulic lifter is not bled down, but am not sure of the push rod adjustment length. Do not want to bend the rod or break the rocker arm by setting wrong adjustment. I will go drink a beer and wait for the yahoo genius army to reply.

  Ok, your first step is to determine EXACTLY what brand and model pusrods you have, or better yet, what THREAD PITCH they are. The adjusted length is determined by the thread pitch, different pitches, have different adjustments...... http://www.harley-davidsonforums.com/forums/engine/17084-hydraulic-pushrod-adjustment.html Once you determine this, the next step is to..... Pull the spark plugs, raise rear wheel, put in 5th gear, roll engine over until rear cyl is on TOP DEAD CENTER COMPRESSION STROKE. You can carefully use a pencil in the rear cyl plug hole to feel when the piston reaches TDC, must be on compression stroke. Then lower rear wheel to hold the crankshaft in place, making sure the piston does not move above or below TDC.....CRITICAL!!! Loosen/shorten the pushrod until you feel freeplay, then, lengthen it slowly until all up & down motion is gone....now follow the correct adjustement for your pushrod's thread pitch. Once this is done, you'll need 3 wrenches, 2 to hold the upper and lower nuts and 1 to tighten the locknut, making sure to not allow any pushrod or adjuster movement while tightening the nut. Allow it to sit about 15-20 to allow the lifter to bleed down, once it is bled down, you should be able to freely spin the pushrod. FYI.....as stated above, ALL Evo's and Twin Cams come stock with hydraulic lifters and one-piece pushrods.
