What's a good 400cc motorbike?

Whats it like riding a motorbike?

  • ive riden before but whats it like riding everyday on a motorbike? whats it like riding in the rain? and does it beat a car at age 17? thankss

  • Answer:

Depends on you, your tolerance for weather and/or confinement, and on why you ride. My main reason for riding is that I totally dislike being in a cage. Even freezing rain is not enough to drive me into a cage.

Riding a motorbike beats driving a car anytime it's not the dead of winter or a monsoon downpour. Even riding in rain can be very pleasant if you have good rain gear. Rain can become challenging, but part of the satisfaction of riding is being able to surmount the challenges it presents. Any chimp can drive a car or a quad. It takes a little bit more to ride a bike.

Riding beats a car anytime. At night, at 17, in the cold, and especially in the rain. You are more in tune with your machine, and the weather than anyone else. You will feel the temperature drop and the wind pickup right before a rain storm so you have a chance to throw on your rain gear. You need to know about the power of cold weather and how it effects you when you are riding. As a new rider you would have to understand your skills aren't truly developed, and apply restraint to the way you ride. Doing that will protect your machine and you from going down. A cruiser a bit older, and used would be the best way to go for your age group. It will save you tons on insurance, and help keep your ride safer than those with say an R6 that get stolen more than just about everything else. Your biggest expense is tires, and ridden intelligently they will last quite a long time. I got over 11,000 out of my Dunlop 404, and another 3,000 out of my Kenda. regular maintainance will keep it running well, and the operating costs are well below that of a car. The gas cost alone made it worth my time. I owned my first car at 16, and at 17 was totally reckless with it since I was sure the steel around me would protect me from anything. On a bike I have no such illusion so I ride like those around me are trying to crash me. Riding that way has kept me safe so far. Hope this helps.

I commute on my bike, and ride it so much that my wife sold her car, and drives mine. You won't catch me by myself in my car. I'll take my bike. I love it. Absolutely love it. Riding in the rain is both fun and dangerous. If you don't know how to brake properly, it can be pretty scary. I've been doing it for a very long time, and will always ride slower, give more space, brake earlier, as will most riders with any sense. It's fun though. Riding beats a car regardless your age. You should be more careful because you're young, and you'll take more risks, but I'm coaching a 16 year old on a track, and he's doing just fine. Look up Peter Lenz on Youtube, and see what a 11 or 12 year old is capable of learning. I can't remember the exact quote, or the poet who said it, but he said that driving a car is like watching life on TV, and riding a motorcycle is like getting out there and living it.

I ride in all weathers. When I go away on holiday with my family ( by car ) I miss my bike every day from day one. I can't ever remember feeling that way about a car. Last summer we had a thunderstorm one really close day. I rode home in serious rain, but even though I was soaked to my nu ts it was one of the best rides of my life ! Does it beat a car at age 17 ? LOL, most bikes beat a car at any age, both for acceleration and top end !

Not very pleasant riding in the rain but when the sun is out, with the wind in your hair, on a fast twisting road there isn't a better feeling in the world

It helps to make every day different from the last. Even rainy days. No two are ever the same.

Do NOT get a motorcycle/motorbike at age 17, there is no way you have enough real world experience to be able to properly maneuver a motorcycle on the streets safely.
