Do you need to have insurance on your motorcycle during the seasons don’t ride it?

just call your insurance company and they should have a ride no ride time frame mine does, is called --ride 9 months, sit and start 3months

You'll have to check with your state's DMV. Here in Maryland, you can't ever have an uninsured vehicle without turning the plates in...otherwise it's a $150 per day fine. I don't know if this applies to motorcycles, but you don't want to find out the hard way.

really depends on the state... here in nevada if you dont have it you have to turn in your plates....

Many insurance companies offer special policies that do just that.

In Michigan you do need insurance but you can drop it down to storage insurance which is really cheap, then should it get knocked over or something you are covered.

You may need it but what cop is going go around researching every tag they come across? lol. as long as its well kept, has a tag on it and your not riding it then who's going care? so in short, No. just get a suspension on the payment for those months. and reinstate it on months you wanna ride :D They will also give you around 2 weeks to get something if it does become a issue just for a fyi

what if it gets stolen in the winter ?

I found that my house insurance covered the antique I was rebuilding But the bike with plates had to have fire and theft to be covered. most policies I have had were prorated for my address. they know that you aren't riding in the winter. motorcycle insurance is pretty cheap, you won't save much by dropping it for the few months it is cold. besides theives work all year. accidents don't take off for the winter either!

Don't know about your state but in NC the DMV charges you for having plates and no insurance. $50 lapse in insurance. Then you have to pay a penalty fee to get reinstated. You can get a 6 month policy and just be sure to turn the plates into DMV before the policy expires.
