How do I make my dirt bike idle longer?

How to make 125cc dirt bike street legal?

  • I'm 17 years old and I work at a restaurant about 5 minutes from my house. And I need a way to get there. my friend has a brand new 125cc dirt bike (small bike, made by BBR, not chinese) that he's going to sell to me for $400. What I want to know is where do I go to buy the parts to make it street legal? ( Blinkers, headlight / tailight, license plate holder etc) Are there any online websites?

  • Answer:

the laws are different in every state. In Florida if the title says off road only then there is nothing you can do to make it legal. Only certain KTM dirtbikes have Motercycle instead of off road only on the title and they can be converted with blinkers, headlight, taillight, plate mount, DOT tires and horn. You will have to check the DMV website for your specific state to know for sure. I can only tell you about Florida.

There are websites that reveal that BBR bikes are made in China http://www.made-in-china.com/products-search/hot-china-products/BBR_Dirt_Bike.html Those bikes are more properly known as pitbikes, they are not real dirtbikes and the chances of getting one road legal are slim – they are simply not designed or intended to be used on the road. If you want a 125 off-road styled bike then look for an enduro bike they are road legal. For 5 minutes from your house a bicycle or your feet would be a better option.

Check with your local DMV. Blinkers are not required in some states. In MI you need a horn, headlight with high and low beams, taillight, brakelight, and mirror. Some states check for DOT approved tires and some do not.

5 minutes! pedal bike, feet, roller boots, or even walk. Hardly worth putin yer lid on for a 5 minute ride!

You can google it or try Ebay, of course. CraigsList has local bike listings. Or, you try yellow pages, under Motorcycles and Parts, Used, see who has a bike "junkyard" and pull 'em yourself, save $ on new. But, just adding lights may still not make it legal. New bikes need to pass smog, some dirt or pit bikes are nearly impossible to do without a motor swap. Sometimes it is difficult to get a street title even if you do. You may need an ASN (assigned serial number), say it is home made. Real Mess. $400 buys a nice, used 400 cc street bike, Jap made. My 650 cost $300 plus some elbow grease. And $400 buys a lot of gas, even now. I'd take a bike or the bus. Or, walk. A good, used bicycle can be as little as $35, and with the traffic, you get there just as fast, or Faster, than a car or M/C. Believe Me. I rode a bike 5 years here, or took bus. I made Good Time. When you save enough to get an enduro or street bike, buy one.

I don't know you can ,as soon as you put road trail tyres on it instead of knobbies its not much of a dirt bike, I know this isn't what you want to hear but if you want to ride on the road get a road bike or a road trail bike , a 125 will be a annoying to all other road users and dangerous to you.
