Dirt bike will not start?

I want to look into getting a dirt bike or sport bike?? Any advice on where to start?

  • I want to be realistic. I dont know anything about motorcycles (although my dad does so I will have to talk to him too) so I dont even know where to start. What would be the best type of bike for me? Im 5'1 and 105 lbs (so nothing obviously too big..) Are street legal dirt bikes worth it? Or maybe a type of sport bike? And what are the typical price ranges to look for if Im buying used? (anything under 3,000?) Any info on how to really get started would be great! Thanks : )

Hey! Sounds to me like you are probably interested in a road type bike, and unless you live right next to 'the great wide open' it would be my suggestion. I'm a big fan of 'entry level rider courses' and the one I'm most familiar with is Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Typically, if you sign up for a 'basic' course, they will provide a motorcycle for the riding portion. Gives you a great chance to see what works for you and what doesn't, without springing for a motorcycle yourself. I like the Honda Rebel for a 'starter' bike, especially for people that aren't too tall. They are readily available used, too. Good luck! Have fun!

As small and light as your are i would start with 150 4 stroke. It will still have more power than you need but it wont be crazy fast and throw you off it if. It would be great to learn on. The height of the bike can be adjusted if its too tall for you.

i may be wrong .but i think know days most states require young new riders to complete a motor cycle driving school. if you live in a state like that. the schools provide the bikes. So you decide what you want after you learn and get your lic. But you dont want a dirt bike for your purpose. and small CC sport bikes are not comfortable. they are for looks. Just get a used 250 cc " street cruiser. " in good condition for 1500. It would be perfect for your weight and what you want to use it for. Then if you keep riding you can decide whats next.

The first place to look would be a motorcycle dealer. Go in and see what you feel comfortable on, whether you can touch the ground, and if you can actually move it. If a bike is too heavy to wheel, you'll have no hope if you ever drop it. How would you go about starting it? Kick start or electric? Is there somewhere for your handbag and make-up case? These are to be considered BEFORE buying.

go to a sporting goods store and talk to a sales associate. They can give you a sales pitch and sell you the most expensive bike they have, very easily.

honestly, it depends on what you'll use it more for, do some research. hope i helped:)

Look in the BikeTrader to get a deal. Or, if you really look around the dealerships, you may be able to find an old bike that hasn't been sold for a couple of yrs, is new, and they just want to get rid of it. This is what happened when my hubby looked for a dirtbike - he got one of those bikes in a box, got a great deal, really looked after it (cleaned it after each use) and sold it 12 yrs later for a profit, because it looked basically new and was in great running order. Just look for a small bike you can handle and pick up off the ground. lf you go off road, you might have to push your bike to get to an area where you can ride again, and you won't even be able to pick up your bike, leave alone push it for any distance if it is too large My dear, you asked about a dirt bike, when you are actually wanting info about a street bike.
