Who will buy Harley Davidson motorcycles when all the 40-70 year old bikers die of old age?

Im 22, and I love the XR1200 Sportsters. I have a friend the same age who has a modded nightster. I was considerind a XL1200 too, but I bought an old, dirt cheap KZ1100 instead. There I think lies the reason only old dudes have H-D. They are the only ones who can afford the Big twins. @ Toyota Sucks: You must be joking! On the chance your not a troll, or anyone belives your nonsense, did you know that the toyota tundra is built in San Antonio. Lots of "foriegn" companies have plants in the states and american shareholders. GM on the other hand builds cars in Canada, Mexico and even Asia. More to the point, Id love to buy American, but what American bike is even almost comparable to my Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird?

Slapstick is making sense and maybe you need to listen because you're missing a very big piece of the picture. You're viewing the current motorcycle scene as static, which it isn't because it's continually changing. Do you think you young guys are going to stay young for the rest of your life??? First of all, young people grow old and most older people have different reasons for riding. For example, most older riders want to see what's between points A and B rather than see how quickly they can get from A to B while missing everything inbetween. The other thing is, how many of the current HD riders do you think started out on HDs as first time riders??? Very, very few. Most rode smaller Japanese bikes in their youth. If they can make the change to HD, then so can you. You'll see that chances are, the young squirts riding sport bikes now will be riding slower, more comfortable bikes 20-30 years from now and many will be big displacement V twins.

Yes, it will be sad. That's why our government should start slapping heavy taxes on import bikes from Japan and Europe. Hopefully that will send foreign bike makers back to their countries. If younger generation bikers are to stupid to understand how much better American made bikes are, we'll just have to educate them the hard way. BUY AMERICAN BIKES OR GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!

A lot of the guys I ride with are in their 20s and ride Harleys. Most of them also ride sport bikes, or their last rides were sport bikes. It's just two different kinds of riding. Some guys like 4wd pickup trucks when they don't haul things or go off road. Some people drive sports cars. Styles come and go. Harley will be back on top when the style trend changes. Then they will go back down when it changes the other way. As long as they're careful, they will survive another century and be just fine.

I'm 20 and I want a V Rod. I don't think they will go extinct, just have to change their style, which is still sad.

Harley will never go out of business. There biggest market is in Japan and they buy more cycles than any state in the USA, hands down. Harley is traded on the stock market and will always be in business because of this action.

Your question answers itself. The 40 - 70 year old demographic is constantly replenished. I know at least a couple of ZX-10 and CBR riders who have come over to the dark side. Eventually, all of us get a little older and just want to cruise in comfort and style.
