Where can I rent a bike in Mumbai?

Is there any octroi tax levied on a bike (registered in other state) when it enters Mumbai?

• I got transferred from Hyderabad to Mumbai and gave my bike to a transport company in Hyderabad for transporting it to my new home in Mumbai. A day after taking my bike, the transporter called me and said that some octroi tax (around 4.5%) needs to be paid on the bike when it enters in Mumbai border. I think he's just trying to shell out more money from me coz how can he pay the octroi for my behalf when he doesn't even has the receipt of the bike. I believe the bike can enter in Mumbai without any octroi etc. This needs to be paid when you apply for NOC etc. Kindly provide me any inputs as it'll help me to deal with the situation in a better way.

  Transporter is right. Octroi is applicable in your case. Octroi officer can fix the base value & charge octroi if any invoice or document is not produced at the time of entry. But ask your transporter to produce octroi payment receipt.
