How old do speed and short skaters start?

I am looking for a good quality speed bike..but I have no idea where to start. Help!?

• Since the nice weather has rolled in I am craving a speed bike. However I have no idea where to start as far as looking for a bike to buy. If you could please help me out and answer these questions and give me any advice/helpful information.. What is a good quality speed bike? How many miles on a used speed bike is considered to be "low"? What key words should I look for when buying a speed bike? What is a CC? How long did it take you to learn how to ride a speed bike? Anything else helpful that I should know? Thanks guys!

  From your questions it seems like you are a beginner and really don't know the first thing about motorcycles, other than maybe thinking they have 2 wheels and a motor. No beginner needs a fast bike, or whatever the term "speed bike" means. What you need to know is as a beginner the LAST thing you need to concern yourself with is speed, and even thinking that way tells me you are NOT ready to get into motorcycling, you have no idea what you are trying to get into and how dangerous it is even for expert riders. CC is for Cubic Centimeters, this tells the displacement of the engine. Engines range from single piston, to inline twins, V-twins, inline 3, inline 4s, v6, v8. Most American brands use v-twins and usually go by CI, or Cubic Inches. The very first thing you should do is take a Motorcycle Safety Course, this will give you a chance to learn on bikes they have in a controlled environment, that way you can tell if you even want to ride a bike or not once you are on one and going. Plus it helps in getting your motorcycle class license and usually give a break on insurance. From there you need GOOD gear, and all of it, though you will need a helmet for the MSF course, don't skimp on then cost, quality helmets save lives, poor ones don't. THEN, after that you can get advice from the MSF teachers as to what bike you should get. If you are going to do it, do it right.
