What is a good beginner sport bike?

  • Ok im 16 and im looking at buying a sport bike/rocket bike. I want to know what a good bike would be to get and learn on. Nothing more then $2000 though and ive been looking on craigslist.. i found alot of ninja 250s are those good?

  • Answer:

A less expensive alternative to the Ninja 250R is the Hyosung GT 250R Priced better, looks better, and rides better. You probably won't find one on craigslist though.

ninja 250s yes they are very good most beginners get them. but I've been looking at the new 2010 Kymco Quannon 150 it seems nice and it starts about $2,999 which is one of the cheapest (if not The cheapest) priced new sport bikes you can get. and i cant say anything about how fast it can go but if thats all you are thinking about u should focus on something else. i have also heard pretty good things about Kymco. but used yeah get a ninja like everyone else. also you want to get a 250cc or less to keep the insurance down until u get a little older :) congrats on the new ride! be safe!! have fun! P.S. u can always get a scooter they are really fun and easy to ride.

Absolutely - The little 250R is a great time for new riders and experienced riders wanting to perfect the fundamental skills that make a good motorcyclist. Check out the ride report from Pashnit, a Hayabusa guy who knows a little about horsepower and riding. He borrowed a 250R and went on a road trip.

Ninja's are probably one of the BEST beginner bikes out there!! They consistently get great reviews (Consumer Reports), also they are not too heavy and don't have excessive power. That said, many people get bored with a 250 cc motor once they learn how to ride after a while, as it definately is not super powerful. That said, I would recommend this size/style bike for your age and beginning status. Also make sure you take the motorcycle safety course, as not only will it teach you how to ride safely, it will give you a riders permit without having to go to the DMV!! Hope this helps..good luck and keep the rubber on ground. Just saw the feedback you got below....although sound advice, a new Ninja is not too far off on price from $3,000, and also a 150cc bike is in several states, NOT highway/freeway legal...so something to think about if you plan on riding on expressways at some point.
