What can I say to people who think majoring in art is lame?

Why exactly are you majoring in art? What is your minor? And what do you intend doing after graduation? I majored in art, only to realize that in the real world, an art degree by itself was rather worthless. Studying art is a fine endeavor, but you really don't have to pay someone to do it. If you're planning on being an artist, it really won't help you sell your paintings; good art is all that is required. If, on the other hand, you're going to be an art teacher, it's a good idea. As for what you say to people, all you really have to say is "Art is my life." and leave it at that; if indeed that is true.

you don't need to defend yourself against rude and ignorant people. if you do want to respond to them, just say why you love art and want to know more about it. passion is the way to success. and: be proud of yourself to have understood the value of art and the hard but satisfying work it requires.
