How do you graffiti good?

How good does graffiti have to be to have value?

  • There seems to be a lot being said about this Banks character's works getting sprayed over... but if I drew a nice picture on a wall, say, would it have any value? I mean, as much as if I'd drawn it on paper? If it did have value, just how could I go about selling it? Are there experts out there who take walls apart complete with the graffiti masterpiece... or, does the original owner of the wall also get hold of the graffiti on it?

  • Answer:

Graffiti transcends value because it always arises as a gift that the system cannot respond to or return.

If it is obviously brilliant, strong in style and speaks to and communicates for a generation, is a cry for attention like the best music you ever heard THEN it has value.

Not all value is monetary value. Works of art can have value to the community just by being there on public display. The real question is, what is art? One man's meat is another man's poison.
