What are some recent art contests in Southern California?

I really don't have the extra $$ for fees to enter art contests, so does anyone know of any free ones?

  • -I want to get my art out to the public, so hopefully, it could be recognized by someone wanting to use it. -Art contests or legitimate sites that let you display your art would be great. -Like I said, I don't have the extra money to pay $25 or $30 in fees per submission. -Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The money that is paid for contest entry fees, is the money that puts on the contest, and helps pay the winners. Without entry money, there would be no contests. Personally, I haven't seen many people getting careers started by winning contests. As with anything in the arts and entertainment field, it's who you know and how you market yourself. Start a website showcasing your work and spread the word around.

check artcontest.com and artlist.com-they list contests and gallery shows but also many that are free as they are web showings- also you can get a free portfolio site on artistsites.org. A good site and I've been pleased

You may want to consider selling your art on sites like those listed at: http://www.smilelikeumeanit.com/stock.html Of course, I'm assuming that you have it in an electronic format. They also have contests on those sites. Good Luck!

ask coffee houses, restaurants, your local barber salon, furniture stores, book stores and places like this if they would like to exhibit your art. A lot of them do that already and if they like your work will be happy to exhibit yours as well. If you are a student or at school get together with some other people who are interested to show their art and organize your own student exhibition.
