How do you find inspiration for your art?
-
I love to draw, but lately I've been feeling really uninspired and unmotivated. I used to draw nearly every day, but now I'm lucky if I get one good drawing in per month. I'm starting to compare myself to a friend who is an amazing artist, and I feel incompetent. She spits out two great drawings a day it seems like, and always has new ideas and new drive. This is really discouraging me and now I cant find any inspiration to pick up the pencil again. I have a feeling of being lost and having no artistic talent, and I have no new ideas for drawings at all. How can I get my old drive back and start putting some ideas to work? This is really starting to hurt my self esteem and turn into a new level of art block and depression. Where can I find inspiration?

i had the same problem and i just looked up the art that i like to do which in this case is manga, and i watched anime. I would get so inspired from the cartoons, that i wanted to draw my own. As for ur friend or watever, dont compare urself to anyone. A true artist admires his own work

I have the same problem sometimes and I hate it when it happens..the more frustrated I get the more it get in the way with my progress so if I can just relax and not be so hard on myself it helps to get me going again. I have found a trick that works well for me. When I can't seem to come up with a new drawing or painting idea I take a painting/drawing I've already done and play around with it in photoshop on the computer.I scan it in and make changes to colors, crop things, add things etc. I can come up with new variations in minutes and if I don't like them I can start with another picture or color. It's like paying and you can't ruin anything 'cause you can change what you do or don't like instantly! It keeps my creative process going. I also play with colors and switch from painting to drawing or visa versa. I also look through a lot of books on subjects that inspire me. I do some photography and take ideas from that as well. Variety helps..do not be hard on yourself. Don't try to paint or draw what others like..keep true to your own likes. Do NOT compare yourself to others//do not talk negative to yourself...like... "I'll never be good enough" .Inspiration is in books, movies, walks in the woods, colors, if you just relax it will help free up your imagination. You can't force it. Doodle! you can see that I HAVE struggled with this myself .Good luck..enjoy your talent!
