What are some recent art contests in Southern California?

Art contests requiring student attendance?

• My high school art department wants to have a field trip, on which we would see several art museums and possibly do some pieces for our AP Art portfolios. The only problem is that the school requires us to be going to some sort of contest or competition. Unfortunately most contests don't require students to travel with their work. So if anyone knows ones that do or ones that require you to do the art on site, please let me know!

  What an absurd combination of problems. The school is obviously thinking of "field trips" as something to football games or robotics competitions. You don't say where you are so most suggestions, if they exist, will involve trips across the country, which the school is unlikely to condone. It seems to me that someone has to define your trip as preparation for entering arts competitions by gathering material ("each student will produce at least 10 preliminary sketches or models as a basis for future work") and getting it approved in advance.
