Is 'Black' considered a color?
-
Are black and white considered colors? Can you tell me why (or why not)?
-
Answer:
No my art teacher explained that in nature there is not thing as "pure" black. I never used to understand that until I used blac paint in my paintings and it looke way to dark. You should create black in paintings by mixing all dark blue and brown. True black would be the total absence of color and light and that never happens. But she did say that white was fine in small doses. I guess becuase you can't create white.

No, they are classified as shades of dark and light. They are not colors as many may think, I can say that as I took 2 years of art class in school and was educated by the instructor about the difference in it.

Yes, I believe they are both colors, however there are some differences. There is a spectrum of colors, and that spectrum is known better as the colors of the rainbow. Because neither black isn't in the spectrum of colors nor white, some consider them to not be colors.

Black is not a colour and neither is white. Black is the absence of all colours and white is the presence of all colours. But neither is considered a colour.

This depends on your definition of color and whether you are referring to pigments or visual light. When talking about visible light black is not a color because it is not in the visible spectrum of light because it is the absence light all together. White light has all the colors combined, it can be separated when directed through a prism. That is the commonly seen in reference to the band Pink Floyd. Do not confuse adding colors of light together and adding colored pigments together they work differently. If you add all the colors together in pigments then you will either get brown or grey depending on how many warm or cool color pigments you use. Black can not be achieved by mixing all the colors together. The black you buy at the art store is a pigment made from probably from charcoal. Black is a color when you are referring to it in visual art or in a printing situation. If a client is buying a two color process for their newspaper then black is considered a color because it costs money.
