How can I make this career change - Marketing/Admin to Fine Arts?
-
I've been through 4 years of university and gained a bachelors degree in marketing and management communication after 2 (almost 3) years working in the industry, I've found that I rather passionately dislike marketing! So for the last couple of years I've really just been bumming around working in odd admin jobs that are seriously unchallenging and uninspiring. To make up for it I've taken up art again and spend a lot of my spare time painting and sketching and am spending more time learning about the arts... I really enjoy it. So what I've been thinking for a while is how I could make a career change into the art industry. I really like the idea of working in a gallery or something along those lines where I could be more exposed to other artists and events in the art world. Is there a way I can do this? Without having to go back to school or beg for work?! I'm earning good money in what I'm doing, I'm also a bit worried about a major pay cut and how that would affect my current lifestyle. But then again I guess money isn't everything?! Any feedback, tips or experiences you might have would be really great to hear! Thanks for your help :) PS - Here's some of my work from the last couple of years if you're interested http://kylaart.com/gallery

Answer:
Your interested in art, thats great! If you look some colleges offer only gallery coordinator training, if you are looking to have the full degree in art remember it is between 4-5 years for the full degree then you would need additional training to be a coordinator. You have to gage what is more important to you in life. And also if there is even going to be work where you live. Curator, critic, coordinator and other similar jobs often require many years of schooling and then some years to get ahead in the degree. Art is a touch carreer to make it in but with the proper education it is achievable. You need to know that art school is alot of work and there will be times when you feel discouraged and not worthy, but you need to keep trying, do you have that drive in you? If so then give it a shot, do something you love not loathe. http://www.gallery-jobs.org/education.html
