What kind of architecture is the Grand Central Terminal?

What kind of architecture is this?

  • http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/Zamosc_pierzeja_polnocna.jpg Is there a name for this type of architecture? Specifically, it looks like the building is white, and then painted with a bright color. In this picture you have pink on white, green on white, yellow on white, red on white... Is there a name for this type of architecture? This picture is from Poland, but I have seen some churches and palaces in russia that have this same feature.

  • Answer:

If I'm not mistaken (and I might be, since I was never good in architecture) these buildings represent early baroque style with strong(-ish) oriental influence. Orient accent comes from the history of this part of Great Market in Zamosc. They originally belonged to Armenian traders in XVII century - when city was an important east-west trade route stop. Mixing "western" styles of architecture - in this case heavy on decorations baroque - with eastern is more typical for central and eastern Europe that was exposed to Armenian or Tatar culture.
