What can I do to make my art portfolio better?

Do I need necessarily need a camera to make an art portfolio?

  • I am a new artist and I need to make a art portfolio.I have been researching how to do this, and everyone is saying I need a digital camera.I want to know if it's okay to use my original drawings in my portfolio instead.Or do I necessarily need a camera?

Sometimes you have to send your portfolio away to be evaluated, either for a job or for school and so on. In those cases, you don't want to lose all of your art work if something goes wrong. I would suggest using a scanner to copy your work. You don't have to buy it, you can use the ones at Kinko's, Office Depot and other copy stores for a few hours for a nominal fee. If your work is 3-dimensional, like sculptures, you would need to photograph it. Again, I would suggest finding a place where you can rent equipment (rather than buy) for one day usage. Many copy/media centers have the equipment on-hand for you to do this, you just have to bring your art work in. And if spending is a concern, ask around! Often times schools, even high schools have this kind of equipment on hand and will allow you to use it, usually for free. It never hurts to ask! Hope that helps.

You can use your original drawings, but if anything happens to your portfolio, they're all gone. It's not necessarily safe, but you can (:
