How do I make a sculpture with foam core?

What can I paint black foam core with to make it waterproof?

  • My project will not allow me to laminate it with anything. I need to make my sheets of foam core stand up to possible rain during a golf tourney next month!

    Foamcore is paper laminated to styrofoam. You can give it a couple of coats of spray varnish and that will help a lot. Be sure to spray both sides - you'll notice it start to curl as you spray one side, but spraying the other will make it curl back.

foamcore is waterproof...its basically plastic over styrofoam...moisture isnt going to get it wet per se, but its going to warp the heck out of it...the same with drastic temperature changes...ive had it happen where i work which is really unfortunate when youve got a project mounted on it...its just the nature of the stuff.... if its going to be outside what you can try is Saran Wrap....just pull it tight and itll provide some protection against the elements... good luck...

foamcore tends to delaminate if it gets wet or too warm...you may want to use something besides foamcore.
