What is visual arts?

What do they teach in a Visual Arts class?

  • I'm going to Interlochen Summer Arts camp, and i am majoring in Visual Arts. I was just wondering what i am going to learn in that class. What exactly do you think we will do in that class?

  • Answer:

Visual art is art forms that focus on the creation of works which are generally visual in nature, these include painting, photography film making, printing (ie. screen print). Those that involve 3D, such as sculpture are called 'plastic arts'. Many artistic disciplines (performing arts, textile arts, and culinary arts) involve some aspects of the visual arts, so the definitions are not as strict as they once were.. The current usage of the term "visual arts" includes fine art and crafts. I imagine that if you are going to do a course majoring in visual arts, you will cover painting techniques, drawing techniques (still life and life possibly), some photography, possibly some image manipulation with in Photoshop or similar, printing and even though it is not classed as a visual art per se, some sculpture. Which ever ones that you do cover, have fun.
