How do I make paper look old?

How to make paper look old without making it look fake?

  • I basically need to make A LOT of paper (a blank book) look old. I've tea stained paper before and I have also used coffee. Is there any way to make it look old (preferably one that doesn't involve wetting the pages) that will make it look authentic. I want it the shade of the paper in the spider wick field guide preferably. Thanks for any help! Also; I heard that leaving the paper in the sun works. Is this true?

  • Answer:

crumpling it up multiple times then flatting it out works

Other answers

leave a pile of paper in a well ventilated place like a garage or something in a box and cover it in soil leave it for a week then come back to it and take the paper out and brush off all the dirt.

RUFFRIDERS

Sun baking will age the edges nicely and dry the cover. Baking will dry and split a whole book. You will need to rest it in a humid (ish) atmosphere betrween baking sessions - the art is in not buring it.
