Ideas for Visual Arts major?

HELP? ideas for visual arts major work?

  • Im starting year 12 work and we have to start thinking about our major works and start playing around with what we are going to do, i need a subject i can do it on, and i need an idea on how to convey it. i really need help. please.

  • Answer:

Focus in on what you like. What subject do you draw mostly. Are you passionate about animal rescue, children's rights, world hunger, clothing styles, landscaping, any image that keeps popping up in your art, start thinking about it and why you choose it. EXAMPLE: My image factor is windows. At first i cut openings in clay, made them in handmade paper, talisman projects... I started looking at them as windows - I escaped through them (psychologically), looked through them from the outside in, etc. I began to draw, paint, sculpt, print, photograph actual windows. The photos were a big surprise as the buildings behind me reflecting in the huge mirrored windows in front of me, turned into surreal shapes and forms. All my artwork since then has been based on that image factor. Look inside yourself and your likes, habits, feelings, etc. I bet you'll find your subject matter. Best wishes on your art journey.

well this is what I did for year 12 this year and suprisingly, I have been able to make 2 majors I'm extremely proud of having been frantically thinking prior to the year and throughout. What I did was started listing a bunch of thoughts that were either things that concerned me, interested me etc. so basically start with a mind map about you then put it as your starting points for visual thinking in your folio. soo specific ideas well for me i did Major 1 on me and who I am and the 2nd one was about my favourite music artist..you could do; - Nature - Who You Are - How you percieve life or certain things - A hobbie you love (e.g. dance) - Society's perspective , the media - Your imagination - Your beliefs Just make it something close to you so that your passionate the whole way through and proud to present something that is unique to YOU (: you'll end up working on it a whole lot more and enthusiastically which will cause a brainstorm of many ways to add to the peice and improve it bit by bit till your happy. Okay so none of this is probably helping but what helps me most (being introverted) I love to just sid reflect on what I think about and jot down those ideas and start with that. It doesn't matter if other people think there weird just go for it! I hope you get some good ideas it's a fun course if you enjoy it!

It is pretty hard to think of something. When I was in Year 12 (2008), my theme was 'autumn' lol. Not a very interesting theme and I wish I could go back and redo the whole year lol. But think of an issue that you are passionate about and address that in a creative way. If there is something you love, you will be more dedicated to it and you will want to do your best. If you were to just pick anything because you couldn't think of what you wanted to do, then you won't feel motivated and your work won't turn out how you want. So yeah, just ask yourself... What am I passionate about? What are my interests? What style of art do I like and want to replicate? etc...
