Which city in Europe has both classic Gothic architecture and modern architecture good for film?
-
I am considering in Germany or Spain, but is there other countries or cities with good reasons?
-
Answer:
There are many. Gdansk in Poland is superb. As are a few of the towns in Holland, some nice quirky architecture. I can't believe that folks here are suggesting Barcelona for gothic architecture. Oh well, some folks don't read the question do they. great locations - small towns Wells, Somerset, England... not so hot on the modern, but Bristol is just up road. Uppsala, Sweeden, some nice quirky modern bridges and great religious buildings. Limberg an der Lahn, Germany. small town with wooden cathederal, and near to Frankfurt, which has some stunning glass buildings. York, Yorkshire, England Strassbourge France, old quarter, and European parliment. Burgos, Spain, nice mixture. The Palais des Papes in Avignon , France Sienna, Italy Malbork, a castle of the Teutonic Knights in Poland Antwerp, Belguim the last place is a real gem, the Grote Markt has open air cafés, City Hall and guildhouses, and opposed to that is the The Boerentoren ('Farmers' tower') and modern buildings in the suburbs. Strassbourge in France is interesting, the view from the from the Barrage Vauban of the medieval bridge Ponts Couverts with its four towers and the cathedral in the distance is to die for. The modern Bridge Passerelle and trams are so distinct in this old city, and then there are all the Immeuble Louise Weiss of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, its facade of the Palace of Europe, and metalic European Court of Human Rights

Bruges is my favourite city in Europe and Barcelona is great but Paris Brussels or Rome are pretty good but all major cities have some prime examples of architecture as of course London. Cant wait to see the film..

Depends if you really mean Gothic or merely old and sinister. France is good for real Gothic, England for both Gothic and Neo Gothic. Manchester has Neo plus modern or Paris for real Gothic and modern
