Why is Pop Art important?

Pop art media, styles etc. ?

• I have a upcoming art project in my art 3 class. My teacher wants us to be as creative as possible and it will be counted as a test grade. I decided that I want to do a pop art poster of Nintendo characters. However I know very little about how to produce pop art. I know all about it's history, Andy Warhol, Campbell's soup etc, however I've never actually have created pop art. What mediums would be good to use? ( the project requires mixed medias) and how could I go about drawing or depicting the characters? I have seen many photos of Marilyn Monroe, lady gaga and other pop art influences, in which there are are four copies of the same photo in different colors. Is this too common in pop art? I want my project to be original. If anyone could explain I'd greatly appreciate it, I've tried looking it up but all I find is pop art history, if anyone as any info or advice I'd be very greatful.
