First hand, take any fonts especiall Arial and helvettica fonts. You cconvert them into curves. From that point, you can use the node tool and play with the different nodes once you have converted it to outline (curve). You can come up with some many nice fonts once you tamper with them. Another good package is font-o-grapher. You create one font and the brogram can generate all the rest of teh letters.. Pretty cool application.
