When do you age out of a web design career?

I'm over the age pf 30 and want to pick up where I started 10 years ago, with a career in web/graphic design.?

  • The problem is,I didn't get enough training and dropped out of school before I gained the fundamentals. I plan on taking courses online, but in terms of getting into the field hands on, where do I start??

    Good question. I would just take a graphic design course at the local community college as a continuing education class (don't worry about a degree right now). The most important thing is to get feedback on building up your portfolio. The software stuff you can teach yourself as you go along. Best option is to see if there is a good graphic design teacher there who will be generous in giving feedback overall and/or let you get into an independent study course. But your number one focus should be to build a portfolio that has had a good amount of peer feedback. Even think about starting a critique circle with people in a similar position.

To actually make money, you need to learn the latest web technologies. Be familiar with making themes for wordpress and drupal based sites.
