What is the difference between Pop Art and High/Fine Art?

  is this a trick question? High or Fine Art is the traditional/classic ways of painting. Think of Renaissance portrait paintings (da vinci, raphael) Think of paintings with religious emphasis such as Gothic paintings of the 13th cent, or more passive paintings of- scenery, flowers, life, such as some Impressionist paintings by Morrisot, or Monet. To put it simply, High Art was for the elite. Patrons paid good coin for this art. It was meant to be hung in galleries. On the other hand, Pop art, as a movement of modernism but with elements of postmodernism, was a breaking of these traditions. Pop art focussed on the everyday, on the mundane - campbells soup cans (if you want the obvious.)Of course everyone's favourite pop artist is Warhol, but he was great, he changed hte way ppl percieved art. Silk screening pictures of Monroe on canvas - an easy, straight forward, 'anyone can do that' process was suddenly art. Art also became commercialised - multiple copies - as opposed to the signature one copy used in High Art. Think of Warhol's pics of the electic chair. or the one dollar coin. So that's the difference: High Art = proper, traditional, elite, conformist Pop art= modern, commercialised, mundane, ordinary, repetitive, contemporary.
