How to preview image before upload?

How do you submit a preview image to Deviantart?

• I have just scanned a sketch onto my computer, the image was scanned into Photoshop Elements. I have been trying for the last hour or so to submit the picture into deviantart! So i click onto upload image, the picture begins to upload and once it does, instead of showing the image it comes out with "Choose preview image" I figured that a preview image has to be smaller then the original right? so I cropped the image naming it "Preview Image" and upload it into the preview image section. So i tried again and it keeps on asking for a preview image and i have put one in! Can you please run me through on how to get this thing working because I've been trying for ages. Thankyou.

  Since I know the default file extension for Photoshop pictures is a .psd , I'm guessing you're trying to upload it to deviantart as a .psd. Deviantart usually doesn't readily accept program exclusive files like .psd's, which is a file exclusive to Photoshop and a few other programs. I run into similar problems when I try to upload a .xcf, which is a file exclusive to a drawing program called GIMP. It will ask you for a preview image when you upload it. But instead of going to the trouble of trying to get or make a preview (Which I don't even know how hard it is) just do this: What you should try is converting the file into a .jpg, .jpeg, or some kind of universal file (I highly suggest . jpeg or .jpg because they are the highest quality) Simply open up the sketch on Photoshop. Then go to Save As and where you can change the name, see where it will say .psd at the end? (Or .something) That is the file extension. Simply backspace the psd and type jpg or jpeg in it's place. Now you should be able to upload it to deviantart without a problem! There shouldn't be anything about selecting a preview image!
