What is inorganic art?

A quesion for art students. What should i look for in an art college?

  • I want to go to an art college preferably in CT. I've chosen one but a friend of mine who also goes to an art college said the one I picked does not have a lot of the qualities other art colleges have. So it's become my back up plan. So I have a few questions because art is really what I want to do: 1. What qualities should I look for in an art college? 2. How should I prepare myself for art college? 3. What should I prepare (like a portfolio and stuff)? 4. What is an art college like? 5. Are they like a normal college via financial aid? 6. When should I get ready for art college? 7. Are art colleges fun? Please I really need in depth answers. I really want to know before I get ready.

ask your friend what qualities she thinks the college should have. personally I think it's important that the facilities are accessible every day for 24 hours and aren't locked half the time. A lot of people like to work late, and if you can't work, because everything is locked that might not help you. Ideally they offer classes in a wide variety of techniques - one important advantage is that you can try out techniques without having to invest a lot in often expensive equipment. The college should be of a decent size, but not huge, since you are going to learn and exchange ideas a lot with the other students in your classes. In my probably unorthodox opinion, this is also where any admission restrictions come in. Admission restrictions generally mean you have more motivated and therefore better students. And since there are many more students than faculty, that is important. Are there long waiting lists for classes? It's not going to be very useful if they offer some great classes, but you don't get in? Do they have classes which prepare you for actual job or it is all about talking about art? Are there classes which teach you e.g. how to run a gallery, be a business person, advertise yourself? A plus would be if internships or coops are part of the program. Do you actually like the faculty? No use to study with somebody famous if they are not nice people. If you happen not to get along at all with the main teacher of your main speciality you are out of luck - only visiting will give you an expression. Are people in a good mood during classes, do students look like they enjoy what they do? Are there a lot of activities run by students (happenings, art clubs, discussion groups, film groups). That's my ideas what a good art school should have, but I tend to be hands on.
