Would you study Fine arts in Canada or UK?

  • To be more specific, Vancouver or London, and why? Which universities would you recommend?

  • Answer:

Here's a link to art schools & living in Vancouver. http://www.artschools.com/cities/vancouver-art-schools-colleges.html It's very expensive living there - apartments are literally twice the price of those in Toronto (I have family members going to University in both places). But I can only assume London would be the same or worse. Which is more important to you - tough course with great reputation, or enjoyable life with a BFA attached? What do you want as your major, and who offers the best course in that? Every university has online student forums - join a few and ask some questions, it's a great way to get a feel for the courses and the communities. Good fortune in your journey! Edit: Weasel, ever been to Canada? Yes, we do have electricity. Everywhere.

Neither! Ive just finsished my second year fine art in bristol and i havnt enjoyed it at all. its all very serious{you cant even have a laugh ever] and tottaly up its own ****, the teachers are vicious and critsise your every move. I came home alott crying. Not to put you off though if your are in love with this subject. take yourself very seriously, dress down and are prepared to justify your every thought and move youll enjoy it. I would recomend you visit both and realy get a feel for the university as wherever you go will influence you and your art to quite a high degree. Check out the tutors of each course to see what kind of art they produce themselves? as they will be alott more helpful and simpathetic to people who they see are on the same wavelength as themselves. Good luckx

London is preferred. London is full of galleries to inspire you. Moreover, just a few hours of train ride will take you to the rest of Europe starting with Paris. Your choices will be almost unlimited. Which university? best place to find out will be at the British Council, if there is one in your country.

I think London! If you are going to study specifically fine arts. Europe had all the cultural revolution parallel to various history of paintings. Art movements from europe had larger influence on all the 'Isms' invented. Where as in North Americas you would be better off studying new medium or Modern graphic design.
