How do you deal with rude and small minded people at work?

Why are the people so close-minded and persecute graffiti artists for their work?

  • Answer:

Here's some kansas city art.. http://www.heathenworld.com/graffiti/tva2.html Some of these artists are so good that they've been commissioned to do their works. I have mixed feelings on the subject. Nobody does graf on wall street. They usually do it in neighborhoods where they live and work. They do it on trains becuase there are no train stations in the country clubs and gated communities. Train cars are also the only way to get your work displayed in "circulation". I don't think it makes the area look cheap. It actually improves the look of the slum where the artists live. The landlords won't offer any improvements, and the artists do with their design work. It's just as real as any other form of art.

Because they destroy other people's artwork(buildings and such) illegally and most of it is gang promotion not actual artwork.

Does that mean you would be open to the idea of someone else displaying their "artwork" on your house?

Because they ignore the rights of others and cause damage. There can be gang messages and fights over tagging. It is really a symptom of other problems.

Graffiti is vandalism. Just because you like it, doesn't make it right. If your community wants to set space aside for community-based art...more power to them. (I support several projects like this.) But, otherwise, you create a situation where either you allow everything...or you have content-based censorship. Which profanities should allowed? Is that a gang sign? It it art? By creating a clear boundary between where it is and is not acceptable to express yourself, you make things simpler for all sides.

How would you feel if you owned a business and someone committed a work of art on your wall? I'd be pretty pissed and have to hire someone to clean it off.

Graffiti is painted on other peoples things(walls, cars, truck trains etc, etc). I kinda like my stuff (that I paid for by the way) to stay just as they are. A true artist paints on their own stuff!

If you paint anything on my house, car, back yard wall, etc., without me giving you permission to do so then you are: 1. Breaking the law by invading my property and defacing my property. You are showing total disrespect for all human rights by saying you are above the law that protects each person's rights. 2. And you are saying you don't have a strong enough degree of self-respect, that you think you have to force people to pay attention to you by plastering your name all over the walls of some local neighborhood, that you don't believe you will either receive or will deserve recognition any other way

Hmmm, I'm sorry to read some of these answers, but I guess it drives home why you're asking the question. I personally find the medium fascinating. Yes, it often is a form of vandalism, but not always. I'm blogging about the virtues of the art form (see my brief entries here: http://theaestheticelevator.com/tag/art/graffiti/), which you might find very interesting.
