We made these a few years ago in my Italian class, using a kind of plaster gauze, like this: http://travelogue.travelvice.com/postfiles/2007-12-21_hybrid-gauze-plaster-roll.jpg Unfortunately I have no idea how much it goes for, but I don't believe it's insanely expensive. You cut the plaster into strips, wet the strips in warm water, and apply over a willing face (first cover the face, except the nostrils, in a loose-fitting plastic wrap that is taped down). If you want to wear it yourself, you're going to have to have someone do this for you. The dry plaster becomes wet and slippery as you apply it. You have to make sure, though, to fill in all of the empty holes in the gauze with the plaster by smoothing it over them. There may be bumps that you need to smooth out as well. If you want do add raised bits to the mask, like eyebrows or anything, you can wet a strip and fold it up to make a raised portion. The plaster is pretty malleable when wet. The more layers of plaster gauze you use, the stronger the mask will be. When your mask is complete, you have to wait until it dries fully, or at least enough to pull it off of the person's face in one piece. Let it sit for a few hours, then you can trim the rough edges using scissors or, preferably, some kind of electric saw, and cut out the eye holes. Cut the mask into whatever shape you want, then feel free to paint and decorate. I let my Italian teacher keep the mask I made, or else I would show you a picture. Good luck!
