What is the best kind of wood for carving?

Good paint for wood carving?

• I am just wondering, what is the best kind of paint for a wood carving? And is there some kind of paint that's clear and serves as a protective coating?

  There are clear acrylic sprays in cans available at many stores that sell can spray paints. I sometimes carve wood but generally prefer the look of the wood's natural color in most of my work. So I use Tung oil which penetrates and seals the wood very little if any change in the wood's color. What I like about the Tung oil is that it can be applied bare handed because sometime when using a brush to apply something brush hairs might get stuck and have to be removed. If you want to color your carving just about any paint will work. However if you aren't familiar with the painting of wood I suggest doing a few tests on scrapes of the same type of wood that you used using different paints, water based, oil based,etc.
