How do I make a sculpture with foam core?

Want to make foam core sculpture look like glass?

  • I created a foam core sculpture that's around 3 1/2 feet tall and 2 1/2 feet wide. It's a series of triangles stacked ontop of eachother which curve towards the top so it looks like they are falling. The next part of the sculpture is to add texture and color. I want to do 3 different shades of blue and create a glass, water, or ice looking texture. Wondering what the best and cheapest way to do so would be. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks guys!

  • Answer:

It seems to me that you have started with a wrong choice that is going to fight with your desired appearance - you can't make the foam core transparent, which means you are going to have to coat it with gels and colors that fake the appearance of ice, which takes you away from sculpture and into painting. You will have to research thick coatings, perhaps even going to the materials used in dioramas and HO model railroads to create rough water and waves.
