Does anyone know how to glaze oven bake clay without having to use a fernace?
-
I'm making clay sculptures so I bought some normal clay at wal-mart to begin with and I want my clay to glaze and not look dull,so if anyone knows on how I make them shine I would appreciate it very much. =)

Answer:
I use Sculpey Studio Glaze http://www.misterart.com/g1203/Sculpey-Glaze.htm The satin glaze has a little bit of shine, and the gloss is very shiny (I use it to make eyes and lips look "wet") The nice thing about this glaze is its made for polymer clay (so it dries properly) and it doesn't "yellow" over time like other glazes can. Just be sure to properly cure the clay (and let it cool fully) before glazing it. (I'm assuming that your using polymer clay... i.e. "oven bake clay" Not air dry clay, or pottery clay that needs a kiln)

You could use water-based poly-acrylic, or oil-based polyurethane. These are products used to stain and seal wood. I know minwax makes some water-based poly acrylic that come premixed in a variety of colors. You could find at Home Depot. If you get the clear you can just add some acrylic paint to make your own colors (they will be more opaque then the premixed though). IMPORTANT: health hazard **you would apply these glazes AFTER your project was baked and cooled** Good luck with your art project!!

You can't sorry. Glaze is only made for higher tempetures. They arn't made for oven. Even low fire glazes are ment for over 1000 degrees, a temeture that would melt oven cookable clay. Ovens cant get that hot anyway. If you did some searching, you might be able to find some super expencive oven glaze, but I really don't think there is any. Sorry.

You need to buy earthenware clay to start out with. Ask someone at a hobby shop for help. Then, make whatever you want. Take it to a ceramics/pottery shop/ceramics shop and get it fired. After it's fired, glaze it. Check the lglaze label to make sure it is: *safe for food(if you want) *safe for earthenware clay Take it back to the shop, and get it fired a second time. There is no way to do it in the oven, although I wish there was too.
