What jobs can a sculptor have?

What kind of jobs can I apply for as a sculptor?

  • Answer:

depends what you learned and what you are good at. You should have some experience with it, but you could work at a foundry, model making, if you managed to get a welding certificate it will help, and you can do welding jobs. custom fabrication, construction, rehabbing of houses, blacksmithing, mold making, not sure if you need some additional qualification but I know some sculptors end up making medical prostheses. You can be a freelance sculptor (not that easy). teaching, working/running a clay studio, making digital models if you are good using 3D modeling, working at a theater with the props (woodworking and faux painting), rapid prototyping. Use your imagination. Most will take a lot of initiative and work.

I have a good friend and both him and his wife are doing engraving on Headstones in cemeteries. They have been doing this for nearly 40 years and is a dying (pardon the pun) profession. He is well paid, no one bothering him and he sets his own pace. It involves a lot of compressor (sandblasting) work but the detail is right up there with a painting.

Sorry, but not many. Should of majored in Business. I have a friend who got a Masters in Art, emphasis painting, and he works and average job. Before you follow your dreams, first follow reality.
