How to make metal jewellery?

How to make KDM for soldering 22ct gold jewellery?

  • I want to make KDM for soldering 22ct gold jewellery, which metal to be adde for making KDM and whats the ratio ? after soldering jewellery will remain the same touch or Purity? Anybody can help me?

  • Answer:

One can buy gold solder in various purities, which is necessary to maintain the purity of the finished product. KDM, or cadmium soldering, will lower the purity of the finished product. I have learned that a KDM stamp indicates that the piece was soldered with cadmium, which has a low meting point. I thought 22K is usually only used for coins. Kitco sells solder in various K's here, you may be able to buy it elsewhere. http://www.kitco.com/jewelry/solders.html I see they only have up to 19K listed, and it is only available in white gold, with a rating of "hard", that is, high melting point. You may have to find another source for it, or lower the K of your jewelry. Grandpa
