  You need plaster of paris to make plaster of paris. You can buy plaster of paris at most hardware stores or at building supply stores and at many art stores. There is no homemade substitute. Mix in an old bucket. Use about half the volume in water you want plaster. Use cold water, otherwise it may set to fast. Slowly pour plaster into the water until it doesn't sink any more into the water (it will form a little dry hill on top of the water surface). Mix. Use for whatever you want to use it. If you never done it before practice with a small amount. Don't put your hand/foot into a bucket of plaster to make a mold. When plaster sets it gets hot and can burn you. Clean up remaining plaster as soon as you are done.
