How to make self-hardening clay for mask?
-
I'm making an art mask. I need a type of clay that will dry fairly quickly and well, so that I can mold it to my face and remove it once it dries, then paint it. I've found a few recipes that would work BUT they have to dry for two days, I can't leave it on for two days. I need something I can mold to my face with detail, let dry, remove, and paint. I need it to dry probably within 4-6 hours, hopefully less.

Answer:
Because clay takes so long to dry, many people use other materials like alginate, silicone, or plaster for making a face mask mold. It is really something that you need help with -- one person to be the model and the other to make the mold. Here are some videos showing three different materials used. Once you make the mold, then you can make the mask out of clay, plaster or other materials and finish it with paint. Good luck.
