What are prosthetic masks made of and how are they manufactured?

  • Any Information prosthetic masks will be great. Im doing a study on them for my A Levels. Any ones personal view on how efficient they are as a prop in industry will also be great, like are the comfortable, are they strong enough, easy to use etc Thanks for any help

    Used to be plaster of paris cast with laytex poured in ; now seems to be mainly cold pour alginates - will go off and come back with some references - first three links are for make-up artists - special FX. Last ref is historical in case it is medical that interests you.

They are made from Latex generally, and are not used for long periods of time as they are rather uncomfortable due the the heat it generates- basically makes you sweat! They can be made as strong as you like and made up of layers.
