I use a company called Roseco in Dallas, which is online. They take credit cards and are nominally wholesale but will be a lot happier if you make it clear that you are buying casting materials and will not be playing games with the gold and silver findings and bulk metal they sell. I buy investment and various waxes from them and could buy tools but mostly make my own http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/castgobl.htm cheap is another matter and I was just happy to get access to the stuff. Rubber molds are used for making copies of clay or wax in wax. They are not used for casting metals except for limited runs of low temp metals like lead or alloys made for low temp work (under 650F) Metals like aluminum, brass and bronze require materials that will stand the heat which is investment or silica encasement, the latter especially for items at or above about 6" on a side.

It really depends what kind of detail you need on your wax and how large the object you want to carve is. You can buy waxes for high detail carving for jewelry at places like rio grande. Carving waxes have different properties than modeling waxes and I only know that jewelry supply places have carving waxes. The cheapest silicon mold making material is 100% silicon caulking if you buy it in an dollar store. Depending what material you want to cast it may or may not be the right material to use.

I like this site. http://www.culinart.net/silicone.html It’s non toxic, (everything’s food safe) and it does have a nice supply of plastiline too make a prototype with, (although I’d use Polymer clay myself.) I use the brush on (Silicone Spread) all the time and I just love it to death.
